Between my vacation to Italy and the fact that the main Swedish league suspends for the Euros it’s been a month since the last football game I got to photograph. Yesterday I went and photographed a game between Hammarby IF and Ljungskile SK. It was a match in the second division, Superettan, which doesn’t suspend while the Euros are being played. Hammarby If is Stockholm’s third football team, which has been stuck in the 2nd division for the last couple of years. I normally don’t cover them, but by colleague at Pic-Agency couldn’t make it so I stepped up to the plate.
It was great to be back out there photographing. The weather wasn’t really with us and it rained for about 60% of the game, however the rain doesn’t bother me since I got a great umbrella which attaches to my monopod. Picture above is Kenny Pavey, currently playing with Ljungskile he used to play for AIK, one of the other Stockholm teams, and was the subject of a lot of heckling from the Hammarby fans. However the real hero of the game was Ljungskile’s goal keeper Magnus Berglöf who for 90 minutes saved everything that came his way including a penalty in the second half.
Naturally this morning I had to grab the papers and see if anyone had picked up anything from the game. I didn’t have many expectations, the Euro even with Sweden’s elimination is taking up all attention. However buried on the last page of the sports section in AftonBladet I found one of my pictures taken after Magnus Berglöf saved the penalty during the second period.
