FolioBlocks

Portfolio Blocks

FolioBlocks is a premium WordPress plugin that I have developed and maintained. It is aimed at photographers and creative professionals who use WordPress to manage their websites and need to create professional image and video galleries to showcase their work.

I began developing FolioBlocks because I felt like most of the premium plugins aimed at photographers and creatives in the WordPress space were incredibly outdated. The vast majority of them created long before the block editor was introduced. Most of them seemed to be on standby, doing just enough to keep things working but not actively improving things or modernizing it in any way. While the newer plugins, those built for the block editor, mostly felt rushed and incomplete.

FolioBlocks consists of 12 blocks for use in the block editor:

Background Video Block
Before & After Block
Carousel Gallery Block
Filmstrip Gallery Block
Grid Gallery Block
Image Block
Justified Gallery Block
Loupe Block
Masonry Gallery Block
Modular Gallery Block
Video Block
Video Gallery Block

FolioBlocks is built to make visual portfolios feel native to WordPress instead of bolted on. The gallery blocks support different presentation styles, from simple grids and masonry layouts to justified rows, carousels, filmstrip galleries, video galleries, and more custom editorial layouts with the Modular Gallery block.

The galleries include filtering, so images and videos can be organized by keywords or categories and visitors can quickly narrow a gallery down to the work they want to see. Individual images can also have their own titles, captions, metadata, hover content, and click behavior.

FolioBlocks also includes a built-in image lightbox, with options for captions, titles, EXIF data, product information, and different lightbox appearances. Images can open in the lightbox, link to the media file, download directly, point to a custom URL, or connect to a WordPress page or post.

For photographers who sell work through WooCommerce, FolioBlocks can connect gallery images and videos to products. That makes it possible to build galleries where visitors can view a portfolio and purchase prints, downloads, or related products directly from the same visual experience.

There are also detailed styling controls for borders, shadows, image radius, overlays, hover effects, icons, spacing, and responsive behavior. Many of these settings can be adjusted globally at the gallery level or overridden per image, which makes it possible to keep a consistent design while still customizing individual pieces of work.

Performance and usability are also important parts of the plugin. FolioBlocks supports lazy loading, responsive layouts, mobile-specific spacing, lightbox controls, optional right-click protection, watermark overlays, and editor previews that closely match what visitors see on the front end.

FolioBlocks is running on this website, so if you looked through the galleries before arriving on this page, you have already seen it in use. It remains under active development, with new features, refinements, and compatibility updates added regularly. Use the button below to visit the FolioBlocks website and learn more.
