It sounds like something out of a dream, and yet it became reality for AIK’s Alexander Isak. On his seventeenth birthday, you read that right … seventeen, he became the derby hero scoring both the opening and second goal in AIK’s 3-0 win against city rivals Djurgårdens IF.
What can say expect wow. Seventeen and the match hero in the derby. Just imagine going to school the next day and basking in the praise. With 9 goals (6 in the league and 3 in the Cup) this season things are looking to be on the up and up for AIK’s young talent. There are already those who are ready to call him the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It’s going to be very interesting watching Isak’s continued development, but I really hope AIK actually holds on to him and doesn’t cash out too quickly. With the player already being linked to big clubs I would hate to see him leave to early and move into a situation that hinders his development. Hopefully the player, the club, and his parents/managers have learned from the mistakes of Martin Ødegaard who is going nowhere fast at Real Madrid. At 17 time is on his side, in my opinion the best thing he can do is to play another season with AIK and play the entire season as a starter. Then with that experience under his belt it could be time to move on.
From the Djurgården perspective what is there to say? Djurgården has lost another derby, a month ago I wrote that it was a near impossibility for Djurgården to get 9 points out of their next 3 games (Malmö, AIK, Norrköping). They did extremely well against Malmö but fell to AIK in this derby. Now they face a tough match away to league leaders Norrköping. I think for Djurgården, more alarming than just this next game is the fact that they have not won a single derby in years now. It’s really starting to become a bit of a complex for them. They have one last derby match this season when they meet Hammarby in the middle of October. So one more chance to try and lift this derby curse and bring him a victory in Tele2 Arena.
