Yesterday I was back at Friends Arena covering the big match between AIK and Malmö FF. Malmö, who is currently at the top of the Allsvenskan table, has been the most in form team season and came into this game on back of 6 straight victories. AIK’s form has been a little hit or miss. The coaching change that saw the return of Rikard Norling brought an immediate positive effect with victories in the derby, away to Falkenberg, and away to Gefle. However after that came string of draws, at home against Örebro and away to Kalmar.
I went into this game expecting Malmö to have the better of it. I planned on having Malmö attack towards me in the first half leaving me free to then decide if I wanted to stay put and have AIK attack towards me in the second. Or if I would switch sides and stick with Malmö incase they were looking likely to win. Unfortunately my plan went to hell when for some reason they choose to have AIK attack their short end in first half.
Malmö made a strong start and took the lead after just 15 minutes. Markus Rosenberg played a ball out to Anton Tinnerholm. The full-back quickly played the ball to Vidar Örn Kjartansson who elegantly finished his ninth goal of the season by placing the ball on the near post. AIK’s equalizer came right before the half when Carlos Stranberg hit the post and Denni Avdic was able to get on the rebound and put it into the net.
The second half didn’t bring any changes to the scoreline and both teams took home a point. Malmö maintains their first place position with 31 points. The currently hold a 3 point lead on last year’s champions IFK Norrköping. While AIK is at 24 points which sees them in 5th place.
Next week is the derby match between Hammarby and AIK. Hopefully it is a good one. I’ll be on hand covering the match and after that I am going on vacation. 😀
Thanks for stoping by.
