It will have to go down as Rickard Norling’s derby. No one would have expected headlines like “AIK crushes Djurgården.” AIK fired coach Andreas Alm just days ahead of Stockholm’s most heated match. Choosing to bring Rickard Norling back to Solna. Norling had previously coached AIK between 2004-2008. He brought them back into the top division, Allsvenskan, in 2005 and almost clinched the title the following season. No one knew what to expect from his return debut. Would AIK get boost from the managerial change? Or would they suffer the change? Just about anyone would have been happy to sigh for a draw.
Yet Norling’s side dominated the game from start to finish. It was never in question. He made a fantastic start to his second managerial start. Now the only question is will it hold? Will AIK once again go on to challenge for the title and find themselves in the top four as the season starts to win down?
On the Djurgården side, things were much simpler. They have started their season rather positively. Gathering some impressive victories. The only thing hanging over their head is their horrible derby record in recent years. Djurgården has failed to win a derby since Stockholm got their two new arenas. It’s become a problem that lingers over them. The fans gave them a simple message “Win!” Unfortunately for the fans this game was never close.
It was never in question.
