Hammarby’s season has moved along on a very similar trajectory to Djurgården. Humiliated by AIK in the derby and lingering at the lower end of the table awfully close to the relegation zone. There have been calls for Hammarby to replace coach Nanne Bergstrand, but unlike his Djurgården counterpart Pelle Olsson he has been able to avoid getting the axe.
I went into yesterday game thinking that Göteborg would most likely walk away with a victory. Göteborg had lost to Djurgården a few weeks ago here in Stockholm, but still I figured that one team was in fourth place (Göteborg) and the other (Hammarby) was in twelfth.
I decided to set myself up to have Hammarby attack towards me in the first half. I could then remain where I was for the second half if I felt that Göteborg was having the best of the match.
Hammarby immediately had the better of their guests. Striker Alex was able to twice skip past Göteborg’s keeper but failed to convert his chances. It became clear to me early on that I would most likely move to the other side of pitch at halftime and continue to have Hammarby attacking towards me.
It did not take much longer for the home side to take the lead. Philip Haglund opened the scoring after 19 minutes. Going under by a goal did not really wake up Göteborg and I never felt like they were going to turn the result. The second half went by and it looked like the match was going to end a simple 1-0. That was until Göteborg gave up a free kick in a very good position. A position so good that you know the likelihood when Kennedy Bakricioglu steps up take the free kick.
2-0
