Here it is the first Links post of 2019. As I said in the prologue post, my aim is to do these posts once a week for the entire year. Obviously heavy on the photography related links but not married to it and afraid to venture away from it. There will definately be some Apple and WordPress stuff along the way.
25 captivating pictures of Cuba
Found this link of pictures from National Geographic on the morning of New Year’s Eve. Sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy these amazing images from the National Geographic.
Dogwood 52 Week Photography Challenge
Perfect link to the start of the new year, a lot of people challenge themselves with a 365 project but I think this 52-week photography challenge looks a lot more fun.
It’s not to late to get started, are you up for it?
Canon to ignore EF Lenses & focus entirely on RF in 2019
Canon’s entry into the mirrorless market obviously got me thinking about when and how I will transition to a mirrorless setup. Right now I feel like I probably got one more generation on DSLRs (Canon EOS 1D X Mark III looking at you) before starting to transition into a mirrorless setup.
Regardless I am glad that Canon is focusing heavily on transition their lenses to these new RF mount lenses. Canon has one of the most complete selection of lenses available so as a company they can definitely afford to put their focus onto this new system.
China makes history by landing on the far side of the Moon
China has put a rover on the far side of the Moon and released the first ever image taken on the dark side of the moon.
I wonder when we will put some type of permanent human presence on the Moon. It’s been 60 years since the first human-made object landed on the Moon and 50 years since man landed on the Moon. Progress it seems has been slow.
Detailing the iOS menu
We’ll venture into Apple land with the last link of the week. An app developer made a write up with some interesting videos of how a menu bar could work on iOS.
I find this very interesting because in my opinion it’s very clear that the iPad is being held back by running a phone’s operating system. Splitting the iPad off from iOS into it’s own branch of the OS and starting to pull features from MacOS would be the best way to get the iPad in a place where it can actually replace the Mac.
Give it a menu bar and give it some type of windowing system.
*At the time of writing this link is going real slow and having a hard time loading. A lot of fellow Apple nerds checking it out.
So there you have it, see you in a week.
