This past weekend I had the opportunity to go photograph the Lennart Johansson Academy Trophy, which is a new tournament held in Stockholm that honors former UEFA president Lennart Johansson.
The tournament featured kids teams from around Europe in both classes of 97 and 98. Sweden, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Austria, and Georgia all had teams representing them there.
AC Milan who competed in the class of 98 was by far the revelation of the tournament. The cruised through the group stages eliminating teams with very high goal margins. In the final AC Milan meet Greek team Paok and was able to comfortably defeat them 3-0 to win the tournament.
The class of 97 division also saw the other Italian team Juventus do well. While they didn’t win by high margins like AC Milan, Juventus youngsters were able to take the lead and then control the matches and bring them to a close. In the final the of the ’97 division the Juventus youths met a team of youths from Georgia and lose to them 1-0.
