It’s been a while since I last covered a Djurgården match. All the way back towards the end of May. Before I covered the Champions League final and before Allsvenskan went on a month long hiatus for the Euros. It feels like ages ago and is actually so long that there have been some changes at Djurgården.
First off Pelle Olson is no longer the coach. Sitting too close to the relegation zone has that affect on coaches. Personally I never cared for Pelle Olsson so I am not broken up about him moving on from Stockholm. In his place comes a very surprising choice in Englishman Mark Dempsey. Mark played lower division football in the U.K. For some period of time he coached one of Manchester United’s youth teams. He then landed in Norway at the start of this year where he coached FK Haugesund for 19 games (10 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses) before then resigning. That is the extend of his coaching experience. Now he is at Djurgården and tasked with getting the ship back on course.
The team is also a bit different since the last time I photographed them. Striker Sam Johnson has moved on and defender Omar Colley looks like he will be following him out the door next. Pretty big loses. Replacing them are both new and old faces. Ex-Malmö player Magnus Eriksson joins the team. Finally you have two returning players in Kebba Cessay and goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.
So can this new look Djurgården save the season and avoid relegation?
