Right in the middle of the summer, when the weather was at it’s finest I spent a week in the hallways of the Stockholm city courthouse. The assignment was covering the assault trial of Rakim Mayers, better known by his stage name A$AP Rocky.
Now Sweden you are not allowed to photograph inside of a courtroom, so for us press photographers that meant we were limited to standing outside of the courtroom or courthouse and photographing the various persons of interest as they came and went. Basically the lawyers, the parents of the accused, and of course the hostage negotiator who was sent by President Trump to make sure everyone came home alive.
I never did get to see A$AP Rocky durring his trial and when he was released while awaiting for a verdict he managed to sneak out of the Stockholm city jail without me pointing my camera at him. That’s just how the ball bounces sometimes.
When it was announced that he was going to come back to Stockholm to perform I knew I had to go to photograph the show. One because it would have a lot of media attention and two because I felt like there was some unfinished business since he slipped away in the summer without me getting a photograph of him.
