2020 and a new decade is upon us and so I wanted to get in my annual Year In Review post before it was too late. 2019 was another really good year for me. My business has continued to grow and improve on the previous year’s results which is excellent to see. For someone that is self-employed maintaining and growing financial results is always the biggest concern when going into a new year. Having been able to meet the goals I’ve set for myself several years running gives me a lot of satisfaction.
From a photographic perspective 2019 was also a great year. My pictures of Greta Thunberg went as close to viral as could be. I’ve had them published everywhere, and when I say everywhere I really mean that. Newspapers across the globe, books, magazines, documentary films, and so on. It will be very hard for me to ever photograph something else that get’s the traction that those images of Greta sitting outside of the Swedish parliament have gotten.
I also got to do some travelling and went down to Tel-Aviv in Israel to cover the Eurovision Song Contest for Getty Images. It was a wonderful time seeing and working in Tel-Aviv which was capped off with being the only agency photographer to get to photograph Madonna durring her performance on the night of the final. Not bad.
The A$AP Rocky trial was big news but in the end when he was released he managed to get away from the jail without me getting a picture of him. Had to wait until he returned to do a concert last month.
Allsvenskan was a lot of fun last year with all three Stockholm teams doing well and battling it out for the title. In the end Djurgården won the league so the gold stays in Stockholm. Would be crazy if next year Hammarby takes it.
Hopefully 2020 deliver a lot of new amazing experiences. I could not resist and went ahead and applied to cover all of Italy’s group stage matches at the Euro 2020. All three games are being played in Rome so logistically it seems feasible. I do not think I will do anything in the tournament beyond that though, regardless of how Italy gets on. So hopefully I get approved and then have that to look forward to in the summer.
Got to run, but here are my top nine from Instagram from last year.
