FolioBlocks is a premium WordPress plugin that I developed and released. It is aimed at photographers and creative professionals who use WordPress to manage their websites and need to create professional image and video galleries to showcase their work.
I began developing FolioBlocks because I felt like most of the premium plugins aimed at photographers and creatives in the WordPress space were incredibly outdated. The vast majority of them created long before the block editor was introduced. Most of them seemed to be on standby, doing just enough to keep things working but not actively improving things or modernizing it in any way. While the newer plugins, those built for the block editor, mostly felt rushed and incomplete.
I began developing it at the start of 2025 and released the first version on November 30th, 2025.
It consists of 7 blocks for use in the block editor:
- 4 image galleries (grid, justified, masonry, & modular) in varying styles
- a Video gallery
- an Image Carousel
- and a block for comparing images (before & after)
All the galleries are rich in features and functionality. For example you can add keywords to your images and filter the galleries.
Or if you install WooCommerce you can link the images in your galleries to products in your store, perfect for selling prints or digital downloads of images.
You can add custom borders to the images in the galleries, and see them added directly in the block editor in real time.
There is a built in Lightbox, Hover Effects, support for Lazy Load, and much more. And of course everything is built for responsive design and adapts to whatever screen size your visitor is using.
